You know, my girlfriend used to think that I was being funny about the whole ‘Australian internet is worse than Thailand’s’ thing. She genuinely thought that our internet, being a developed nation and all, had an average internet speed that was at least bearable.
And when she got here, she found out how wrong she was.
Almost three years have passed since the National Broadband Network plan was thrown into the public eye, promising fibre/copper wire hybrid broadband lines that would allow customers to download to their hearts content at speeds of up to 100mbps. But unfortunately this Aussie gamer’s godsend is yet to be fully implemented into all suburban areas within my state, my local area included.
Hell, I can’t even get Firefox to work properly with our current internet plan. Despite having an ADSL2+ connection, our maximum download speed appears to only be a severely gimped 220kbps. And if you think THAT is bad, you wouldn’t want me to tell you about our upload speed.
Yup. Life in Australia is pretty darn tough. Oh well. Looks like I won’t be Twitch streaming or uploading YouTube clips any time soon.
